About
Mission
After a ferociously fought 5 year struggle, on June 23rd, 2008, breast cancer claimed the life of the most selfless person I have ever known, my 38 year old wife Tracy. Until that moment, I had never known such profound sadness.
Those of us who were lucky enough to have known Tracy are better and stronger human beings because of her. Even those who only briefly met her have commented on how her infectious personality and tenaciousness had a life long effect on them. Her love of life and family were what defined her. She is, and will always be, dearly missed.
After witnessing first hand what Tracy and many other women were going through during our time at City of Hope, I realized that I could not stop the fight that had so consumed our lives and presently consumes the lives of thousands of other families in their personal fights against this completely unforgiving disease.
Breast cancer continues to devastate the lives of hundreds of thousands of families each year. The Foundation’s sole purpose is to help the individuals that are currently fighting this disease by funding early tests that insurance does not cover, yet could potentially save their lives. Additionally we will continue to fund the continual research needed to find a cure.
City of Hope is a fully functioning hospital as well as a cancer research, drug development, and clinical trial facility. This is the facility where Tracy and I spent a lot of our time during the last few years of her life. Had it not been for the quality of care, concern, and total dedication by her team of doctors there, we would not have had this beautiful person in our lives much past her 34th birthday. The doctors all cared very much for Tracy, worked countless hours studying, meeting, discussing, and treating her disease. Their painstaking, unwavering dedication is a testament to City of Hope and the staff that they so carefully select. The same is true of several other dedicated cancer facilities.
We are proud to announce that the patients of Sharp Grossmont Hospital’s David and Donna Long Center For Cancer Treatment in La Mesa, CA, San Diego County, have been selected as recipients of our fundraising. Administrators work closely with us to bring un-named candidates who they believe would benefit from tests that either their insurance company would not yet pay for or their co-pay is just too high. Should these tests happen to come back positive, the insurance company will then begin to take care of the rest, and we will have helped provide very early detection of a rapidly spreading disease that would have otherwise gone undetected until it was potentially too late. These tests are also providing much needed data for ongoing studies to help Oncologists in their future diagnosis and treatment planning. We are proud to be a part of such studies.
I would like to thank each and every person participating in our event. Every dollar that we are able to contribute has a direct impact on saving lives, and gets us that much closer to a cure. Thank you for caring.
